I am regularly invited to deliver demonstration lectures on hypnosis. In these lectures, I demonstrate either individual or group hypnosis. I have two models for group hypnosis. In first model, I pick up a group of volunteers consisting of 5-10 persons and ask them to sit in front of the remaining audience. In the second model, I deliver hypnosis induction instructions to the entire group. In either ways, I proceed in the lectures along following lines.

    1. Pre-hypnotic talk: A brief talk on powers of hypnosis to arouse interests of the audience and clarification of central myths to solicit maximum involvement of audience.
    2. Tests of suggestibility: My preferred tests of suggestibility in group setting are: Pencil Test, Mantra Test, Lemon Test, Gun Test.
    3. Hypnotic Induction: I use following methods for group induction – Book & Balloon; Rubber Band. I once used, spiral method for group hypnosis, but next day some subjects reported sleep disturbance and nausea feelings. I did not repeat that method.
    4. Trance Testing: I usually conduct the test of arm levitation and rigidity in group settings.
    5. Healing Suggestions: Since group get into hypnotic trance, I deliver any generic suggestion script to utilize the induced trance.
    6. Post-Hypnotic Suggestion: If I have any high hypnotizable subject, then I also demonstrate posthypnotic suggestion. I usually associate a neutral act with the sight of my mobile.
    7. Termination: I go for first line termination procedures and if there are any complications or problems then I use other procedures for trance termination and removal of posthypnotic complications.
    8. Feedback: I invite participants to give feedback on their experiences.
    9. FAQ: I take up questions from the audience and respond to them.
    10. Spillover Effect: I, as usual demonstrated group hypnosis in DJ College, Baraut. One of my cousins was participating in the observation. When we were back to home, she reported a mild headache due to the demo. It quickly occurred to me that this might have been the effect of my suggestions to the demo subjects. I asked her to close her eyes, and attend to my suggestions. I gave her termination suggestions considering as if she was hypnotized. After the termination suggestions, she reported instant improvement. This led me to the formulation of Spillover Effect.

Now, when I perform individual or small group hypnosis before a larger group, at the end of the session I make it a point to enquire from the group if any person is having altered feelings, headache, or dizziness due to the demo. If yes, I consider it as partial hypnotic effect on them due to my suggestions. To remove audience’s partial hypnosis I ask them to close their eyes and give full termination instructions as if they were hypnotized. I find a good response to termination instructions in such subjects.

    Group Regression:

In a group regression, I present instructions for past life regression to a group of people simultaneously. The group may be small or large comprising any number of people. I prefer use of an audio system in the group to ensure that my suggestions are clearly audible to each and every member of the group. I ask the group to switch off the mobiles. I deliver a pre-regression talk and clarify the myths and apprehensions of the group members. I try to secure a right frame of expectation from the group by telling that there would be no total loss of awareness, everyone would continue to listen to my voice, they will remain in full control of themselves, the glimpses of past life may be visual or just a sense of something different, they should allow the luxury of pure experience during the instructions, they should get absorbed into whatever is released by the mind, the process would be akin and as normal as the dreams, there would be no extra-ordinary features and so on.  There would be subjects who would either not get into hypnotic trance or their trance will break midway, I request them to remain silence and observe whatever is happening around them. The salient feature of my group regression approach is as under.

    1. It is a non-verbal procedure in which I keep on delivering the script and the audience have a private experience of past life regression.
    2. sit comfortably, visualize any of your favourite spiritually charged place, lie down there and feel, experience and sense what is happening over there, continue to get absorbed into it and a pause of about  15 seconds.
    3. now feel and experience that a fairy with its magic wand or any divine being is descending from the cosmos and approaching you, pause
    4. it is cleaning your body, mind and aura and nourishing you spiritually and creating a very strong protective shield around you pause.
    5. now allow your mind to be open and travel with this fairy or divine being backward in time for a wonderful experience;
    6. you will remain protected, comfortable, secure and in control of yourself  throughout your journey back in time; pause
    7. now the fairy and the divine being is taking you to an ancient  time, allow yourself the luxury of pure experience, do not judge or criticize at this point, just have a pure experience, pause of about one minute
    8. you are comfortable and secure with the divine being and when you land somewhere in any of your older times, allow your mind to flow with each major event  of that life time one by one and receive healing from the divine being and allow closure of the past baggage; a long pause of about five minutes.
    9. continue to review your that life time, you can move forward or  backward through a mental remote and view the entire life
    10. the divine being or the fairy would continue to rich you and heal you, long pause of about five minutes
    11. when the review is complete you may return back to the spiritual place from where fairy or divine being took you to the backward journey there is no hurry take your time
    12. when done you would return to normal waking and comfortable state 100 percent; be smooth, soft and gentle to yourself
    13. wait for spontaneous termination
    14. I keep one or two volunteers with me who can keep a watch on the
      audience

In group regression, there would be wide disparity in the regression response of the audience. A few subjects may be expected to have good response in group sessions; some others may have partial response. There would be a good number of subjects, who may not demonstrate any response to group regression session. The group regression may have some healing potential as reported in an extensive research by Dr. Helen Wambach (1979). She observed that in group regressions the volunteers reported healing of one or the other issues even when none of the subject narrated his/her experience to the therapist either during regression session or even after as integration session. The mere experiencing of past life trauma was sufficient enough to heal their past life wounds.
